Exterior sunscreens or sunshades excel in stopping the sun and heat before it enters your home. Exterior sunscreens offer superior performance in glare reduction, UV protection, and reduction of heat gain through windows. They do all of these things while still being able to maintain your view. Have you ever touched a shade or blind in your house on a hot day? With interior window shade or blind down the sun gets trapped between the glass and the shade or blind. Then heat between the shade or blind and the glass essentially turns the shade or blind into a heat panel. With exterior sunscreens being a physical barrier on the outside of your home they are able to drastically reduce heat gain, UV damage and glare. Effectively reducing the heat in the home and cooling costs.
With exterior sunscreens one major benefit is that you typically can use a more “open” fabric allowing you to see through the fabric more easily. Typically exterior products openness's range from 10%-20% openness while the equivalent interior window shade or blind fabrics are normally offered with a range of 1%-10% to be equally effective. With the exterior sunscreen able to us a more open fabric, you maximize the amount of light in, while keeping a major amount of heat out, all while retaining your view.
These units come standard crank operated or with a pull tape system that works through the wall. Motorization is suggested to offer maximum ease of use. With all motorized exterior products we recommend the integration of a safe guard against adverse weather. A wind sensor which can tell the sunscreen units retract or open to protect them should adverse weather conditions arise is highly recommended. A motorized exterior sunscreen is as easy to operate as it is to turn up and down the volume on your television. There is even a favorite position preset button. When you press your preset button your exterior sunscreen will return to your favorite position every time.
Motorization typically uses high voltage (120v) and RF (radio frequency) controlled with either a hand held remote or in wall keypad. These systems can be tied into home automation systems. We offer hard wired high voltage systems (motors and keypads) in addition to high voltage RF motors. We have found the RF motors and systems to work extremely well and be extremely reliable. The motors have built in safe guards against any protection sensors failing.
Somfy and Simu are the industry standard for exterior hard wired and RF motor motorized applications.
